toads in February?

I just found a toad on a well used concrete walkway. There didn't seem anywhere obviously safe and warm to put it so I removed him and placed him under some tarparlin with some dry leaves to hide under. Was this the correct thing to do. Have I moved him away from him hybernation place. I was worried he would get stepped on in the dark. Also is it normal for toads to out so early in the year

I had a toad in my pond a few weeks ago..So as long as he can get out he will find somewhere safe..

Yes its common to find toads this time of year they are starting to increase their activity and will be moving towards breeding ponds.

I used to do toad rescue with friends a while back They always start moving in February - just as the warm wet weather starts. It's good if you can pick them up off the road and put them onto the side in which they are heading - the one nearest a water body - pond, drainage ditch etc.
