| | | Frogs are not scary. Today at school there was a large Frog in my daughters playground. Apparently there were quite a few children running around screaming as if this Frog was going to eat them. My daughter got very annoyed and told them all "Oh for goodness sake, shut up". Thankfully a teacher rescued the poor creature before it was done any harm. It did make me think though once again just how removed many families and children are from wildlife these days. It's sad really.

Have you thought of asking the school if you could set up a Wildlife club for the children..perhaps with a once a month meeting?

| | | Re: Frogs are not scary. How true this is,i was only saying this in a post afew weeks ago,how children today do not see wildlife any more because they go every where by car, there are no nature walks like i had as a girl, thing is my family never had trasport so it was stay at home or walk everywhere, nothing better than taking the kids on a nature walk in the woods, trouble is they wouldnt be interested unless they were shown by their mums and dads, they would prefer to surf the web,its such a shame because the next generation will be even worse. |

| | | Re: Frogs are not scary. Around two weeks ago a friend of mine had a telephone call from her daughter, she was really upset. apparently an influx of toads got into the school grounds and some of the children were attacking them viciously, even worse, the teacher !!!!!!!! stamped on 2 Shocking !!
I'd love to run a wildlife orientated school where children could come and stay for a week and learn all about different types of wildlife and flowers. I would hope it would promote respect for the future. If eva I win loads of money ...........

| | | Re: Frogs are not scary. My pond has done wonders for educating my son..He would spend hours looking into the water watching newts, toads, frogs, dragonfly larvae ect. He had never seen before..Every one should have a pond.. |

| | | Re: Frogs are not scary. Children are far removed from wildlife these days, unless they are lucky to have a family who has some interest. As I have said before on another thread the schools should be teaching the children something about wildlife to help those who have no input at home.
My daughter has a friend who is nervous of worms and centipedes and when she comes to play she shudders as we look at them!!
As for instilling a fear of spiders nearly every child I know says they hate spiders which is really annoying as my 3 yr old will presently pick up mammoth house spiders and put them gently into the garden, saying "come on sweetie out you go" or " You poor thing are you stuck in the bath?' |

They're supposed to be mature, educated adults in a position of trust and authority. If they do it children will think it's acceptable.
