| | | Re: Sand Lizard on the Scottish borders? It is as already mentioned a common lizard, although some reference a green form, this doesnt have to be the case, male common lizards are often green especially after a period of basking. If the common lizard had a full tail 9never shed) they can appear quite large. What was the head like? sand lizards have a much heavier bulit head and neck. |

| | | Re: Sand Lizard on the Scottish borders? Are you confirming that the tracks must have been drawn by a lizard ?
I'm not familiar with these things so it was a guess I would have liked to have confirmed. Wish I had taken a picture 1
I saw none of the creatures themselves, so the type of lizard is not in question. |

| | | Re: Sand Lizard on the Scottish borders? I was in the sand dunes at Embleton Northumberland on the 23/04/2010 when my granddaughter discovered a sand lizard, bright grass green all over with no dark markings. It was about 17cms long. have seen brown green lizards with dark spots along the body and head but never one which was of uniform colouring. AllanRus |

| | | Re: Sand Lizard on the Scottish borders? We were in Northumbria in May this year and saw a sand lizard at Keilder Water. We were able to observe it for a couple of minutes, it was unmistakable, larger than a common lizard and bright green along the flanks. |

| | | Re: Sand Lizard on the Scottish borders? We have just spent a wonderful weekend on Holy Island Lindisfarne, and on our walk across the beaches and dunes we spotted this small golden brown lizard, about 6 inches long. I hope the pictures are a useful contribution to the debate! |

BTW, welcome to WAB.
Jim
P.S. I can't even mention Lindisfarne to my partner because it starts her off! They charged 5p for the toilet, and when we went there a few years back we didn't have a 5p coin and 'all' the shops promptly closed when the tide cut the island off, so we couldn't get one. She had to climb over the turnstile! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
