So where did you find them? I've not seen one in the wild since I was a kid (which is a long time ago btw ) | Plenty on the North York Moors cazzie, and around that area. |

| | | Re: Slowworms and a big one! [quote=Ukwildlifeo;163771]I found some nice slowworms today:
This is an adult i believe. Was a good 20+cm long and plump. A pregnant female? Wheres Yellowhammer when i need him lol
The males are typically grey or brown with no distinctive stripes, unlike the female. They also have quite a broad jaw structure. From the above photo I would guess a male. But not entirely sure. Great pics. |

Great pics.  | The dark flanks (not very clear in this photo) show Neil's to be a female, males are usually much more uniform and lighter;
This is a big male from one of my local sites. Notice the yearling, top left? I didn't even know it was there until I looked at the photo

| | | Re: Slowworms and a big one! Thats more like the males I know! Cheers Yellowhammer. I wasn't completely sure as her sides didn't seem that dark. Like your pic though. Its best to see the big males and females side by side then it becomes evident. |

If the weather holds we should find some adders on Monday, but I've seen the forecast, don't hold your breath
GJF, what you said is absolutely correct, but if you're relying on one shoddy photo it's hard work... Watch Neil blame his camera/the weather/phases of the moon now... Only joking Neil

I did ask my nature lady in the village and there's been no reported sightings in the area
