| | | Re: Are Slow-worms and Grass-snakes mutually tolerant? jam_rich1, the photo was taken at the end of June at my pals wildlife garden near Beaulieu Hants.

| | | Re: Are Slow-worms and Grass-snakes mutually tolerant? Just for interest, this is the Adder that didn't appear in the first photograph, taken a few days later it appeared he or she had taken up residence underneath another sheet of tin.
Probably fed up with being nagged by Grass Sankes and Slow Worms so moved to another place for some peace and quiet. |

| | | Re: Are Slow-worms and Grass-snakes mutually tolerant? For what it is worth, I used to monitor the local adder population in a small private nature reserve about 12 years ago.
I had about 6-7 'tins' (corrugated iron) placed all over the site and one tin regularly housed 1 or 2 adders, 1 grass snake and 1 or 2 slow-worms all together, the tin being roughly a metre 'oblong' and there was only about 30 cm separating then.
Every time I lifted the tin they always seemed quite content.
In the same reserve, just out of interest, I have also seen a male sparrowhawk suddenly swoop down and fly off with a wriggling adder.

| | | Re: Are Slow-worms and Grass-snakes mutually tolerant? Neil, I was talking to my pal recently and he mentioned that the local Heron, apart from feeding on Great Crested Newts has also developed a liking for slow worms in his garden so the population has become a bit depleted.
