| | | Common Lizard Nest Hi all,
I stumbled accross this great community while looking for some advise on common lizards, so i hope u can help.
My dad found a lizard nest today, in the crack of a brick wall he was pulling down. About 7 -9 small lizards were in there, which he removed from there for thier safety into a tin. I don't know a huge amount about lizards, but they look like common ones to me, ill try and get some pics up later.
We are not to sure what to do next however, should we look after them? Or should we release them into a nearby wood? As they are small with no nest, im not sure if they would be able to survive on their own, but im not sure if keeping them in captivity is the best option.
I know abit about reptiles as I have kept a snake for 4 years. So i know they are cold blooded and so would have to have a heat source, and would need to feed on insects.
If anyone can give any advise on what i should do with them, or any links to sites that will help me look after them, it would be very appriciated.
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Common Lizard Nest i would suggest that the best place to find information on this subject is froglife. they are a national charity that deal with amphibians and reptiles. they produce a good selection of information leaflets as well. hopefully they'll be able to direct you to the best course of action.
in the meantime if you build a pile of rocks into a loose pile with crevices in it somewhere in your garden you could relocate them into that.
hope this helps

| | | Re: Common Lizard Nest firstly, well done...sounds like a brilliant find.
in my opinion you are best off releasing the lizards as close to where they were found as possible as there is bound to be other lizards and suitable habitat around the area. they are able to fend for themselves as soon as they are born so don't worry about that too much, although, of course, very few will survive their first year. i think they also start to disperse from their 'nest' very soon after they are born also so they won't mind being moved too much.
good luck and keep us informed

| | | Re: Common Lizard Nest To be honest, if there are several of them in a brick wall they are probably newts. Let 'em go where you found 'em chap
