| | Injured Toad - advice needed Help!
Whilst digging in the garden I accidentally injured a young common toad. One if his back legs has come off leaving a stump of bone sticking out.... He seems ok managing to crawl on it, I bathed it in water and moved him to an overgrown bit of the garden thats really dark and damp.
Will he survive or would it have been kinder to put him out of his misery? I feel so dreadful!! |

Hope it does ok - I'm sure you'll be keeping an eye out for it now. |

Sorry to here of your accident. It isn't the first and won't be the last.
I suspect that frogs and toads lose many limbs to cats etc. So by cleaning up a relatively clean wound, you have given it the best chance of survival - certainly a lot better chance than by putting it out of its misery.
Hope all goes well.

| | | Re: Injured Toad - advice needed Yes ive seen many amphibians with missing limbs, aslong as its clean it will heal over and the toad will manage fine, iv even seen a 3 legged toad swim so they do manage. Unfortunatly accidents do happen |

| | | Re: Injured Toad - advice needed I too injured a toad about the same way. I also think his other leg may be broken. Can someone tell me if I should "set" it..or just let it heal on its own. Do you think he will be ok?Ive been treating him for 2 days and he is still alive and active. Will try feeding him tonight and hope he makes it.Any advice will be appreciated. |
