Frog tooad newt

I'm just renovating my bird feeding area. I've uncovered 2 Newts. I've moved them to their colony in a wood at the bottom of the garden. I also disturbed a Frog and A Toad.




I've rehoused the Frog and Toad in their own concrete topped flat. they'll be well looked after. Here's their new home.


My project is a new bird feeding area, but I suspect there may be things that I could incorporate around it, or under it, to help these creatures.
Any suggestions.

You could put some ground cover plants under the feeders they like cover. A shallow water feature come bird bath nearby. Amphibians like it dark and damp. Maybe some wood chipping under the plants. Have you got a pond or room for one? If you have a shady area you could plant some ferns, hostas and periwinkle.

The site is North facing, so it'll be shaded. I was considering paving it and putting 'things' on it, but planting it is an option. I've 2 Fatsia Japonicas in planters that I could use, they'll grow in shade. I could mulch them with blue slate, I know the newts love this.
