Well I got some slate today (roofing ones lol!) and have sorta made a shady area now - doesn't look too naff does it
| Your pond looks fantastic, well done
The slate shouldn't be needed in a yr or 2 as the plants in the pond mature and fill out creating plenty of shade for the pond. I have got water mint in my pond and that provides lots of shade I will post a couple of pics when they are in my album |

| | | Re: Common Garden Frogs? Thanks Pixii - yes I do Ukwildlifeo! Built it with my hedgies in mind
There's a wetland area with a small lip leading straight onto soil (bottom left of pic) and also a shallow shelf with large cobbles banked up (out of shot on the left too) - all sorted and hedgie safe methinks *hopes*! |

| | | Re: Common Garden Frogs? Well when a neighbour offers you a load of free stone, you have to take it eh! Been humping wheelbarrow loads all morning and although I'm new to stone-walling it's not a bad effort - this is the result....
Now you have to put your 'imagine' glasses on as it's looks a bit harsh atm, but I'm planning on planting some creepers (any ideas?) along the woodchips inside the curve to spead over the stone and along the back edge where the soil is exposed (maybe small alpines or thyme etc.?). I've left lots of lovely nooks and crannies for my froggies, newts (when they arrive) insects and bugs etc. Hopefully they'll like my efforts lol!
Bought a small tub of yoghurt this morning, so will water it down and paint some over the stone to get some moss growing.
So wha'ddya think then? |

Yep I reckon it's certainly worth the effort - everyone should have a wildlife pond! |

| | | Re: Common Garden Frogs? T2 - got any suggestions for me?
I've found a new plant nursey in Ilkley which I will visit tomorrow (supposed to be excellent!) as I'm still on the hunt for the elusive Chinese Plumbago so what else can I get whilst I'm there eh?!? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
