Welcome Scrumpy- glad you came to no harm + it was worth the effort- they are great critters. I have seen them around Portland + couple of other Dorset sites, though my first were near Ventnor, I.O.W.

Was down in Dorset today, saw plenty of Wall Lizards and several Green Lizards. Rounded it off by a short visit to a Heathland site and found 2 Smooth Snakes.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread, I am interested in knowing how many Wall Lizard sites there are in the UK having seen them at the Ventnor, IOW, Botanic Gardens last summer (they have even been built their own wall!). I have read there are up to 25 sites and research is going on to establish whether they are relics of a native species or introduced, as there are also colonies in the Channel Isles and Northern France.

I too used to catch wall lizards in Cornwall, at the end of New Road in the village of Delabole. it is built up a bit now, but the lizards were very common back in the 50's and 60's.

These are fantastic photos, I remember seeing some at Ventnor-more to the point what camera did you use as I'm thinking about buying a camera for wildlife photos.
