Platinum what a sweety you have got ....just a thought even tho you dont know of any ponds nearby ...your neibours must have them ....so probably evolved from there ....I get toadpoles every yr from a pond 1 hr away and *grow* them on in 2 belfast sinks ...obviously they can never get back in there again ...so every yr i have a corner in my garden where i have got huge logs with grass growing around them and when it is very hot i put a watering can of water over the logs and soil to keep it moist and keep the worms coming to the surface ....and they survive really well every week i have a little peep and boy do they grow ...then usually oct nov the ground gets too wet and they seem to establish a little territoy all of their own somewhere in the garden ....they must move out of the garden somedays and then come back ...and we have 5 cats and 2 dogs and never have they got at them because they usually only come out at night ....I have 2 of my last yrs babies living together ,and for the very first time i brought a set of garden lights and when i put these on (they are hanging in a tree above my rockery where the 2 of them live under a tile ) it seems to bring them out much earlier than usual and i sit out there with a cup of tea and my torch and watch them feeding amazing ...My this yrs batch of toadpoles are still at he 2 leg stage ...with many still with none ..so will have to wait a while for a real baby ...but quite a few little frogs now and they too are put under the same logs and all live together quite happily .....good luck in finding him/her a good home Marion |
