| | | Any differences between frog and toad tadpoles? Hello there,
just wondering if there are any visible differences between frog and toad tadpoles until they become obviously frogs or toads?
We're wondering, because we had both frog and toad spawn in our pond this year, and have had hundreds of tadpoles. Most seem to be black blobs of varying sizes, but we've got some mottled beige coloured ones that are more flattened, like a ray shape I guess... and I just wondered if these were perhaps toadpoles?
As you can probably tell, I know nowt! I do have piccies though, if I can upload them. |

The mottled ones are probably the lighter coloured frog tadpoles as the toad tadpoles are jet black in colour and usually a little smaller. If you look closely at the frog ones they tend to be quite speckled. I hope that helps.
