| | | Crystal clear water Now I know that this doesn't sound like a problem but my pond was developing really well and looking like a healthy established pond but nearly over night the water has become crystal clear which I know alot of owners love but it is a bit of a problem with tadies because it looks like they have nothing to eat. I have loads and loads of the previously mentioned lava do you think they have just eaten everything. and how do I get some algea back it is in full sun. |

I floated a plastic ring from a pond shop on the surface and fed
them lettuce leaf +floating pond sticks a little at a time so as not
to encourage bacteria

When we keep taddies in a tank at our Playgroup, we use fish flakes to feed them. It you are concerned try a sprinkle a couple times a day and see it they take to it. |

They've eaten it! You'll find that dandelion leaves go down well - and cheaper than lettuce! |

| | | Re: Crystal clear water Yes, it's probably no coincidence that we've had no frogs and therefore no taddies in the pond this year, for some reason, and the water is as green as you like. The newts are barely visible in the murk. |

| | | Re: Crystal clear water The pond is still crystal clear am now feeding the taddies the lettus and have now found out they love chicken...I keep feeding then because I don't want them to eat each other. But as the water is so clear I can now see how many taddies I have and there must be about 50 so i'm not sure if I should let them do the nature thing so there will be enough food in the garden when they hop out. |

There may well be food in there that you can't see. If they don't all make it, that's life. They will eat most anything that comes their way - have seen them chomping on a snail that had fallen in, still alive, like a pack of pirahnas. I'm sure they will be fine.

If you find the cause of your clear water Krewella let me know. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
