| | | Re: Blackadder It can happen in both sexes, where this picture was taken, there is at least 1 male and 1 female melanistic adder. In the case of melanistic adders, I would say the most reliable indicator of the sex of the animal would be the tail shape.

I have read about the northern distribution of the melanistic forms possibly due to the drop in temperature. I didn't realise we had them down here.
