On Easter Sunday whilst helping my girlfriends 5 year old with an Easter egg hunt on a field behind a local pub i stumbled over a rock, i lifted it hoping for an egg but i found something far better. A slow worm. I hadn't seen a slow worm since i was about 10 years old!
It was probably about a foot long and it didn't seem to mind me disturbing his home until the kids wondered what i was up to then proceeded to scream SNAKE!!! and run away. He then slithered off into the long grass to find somewhere quieter no doubt!
No pictures unfortunately but i hope i don't have to wait another 14 years until i spot another.

I remember as a child seeing them all the time.. But like you rarely see them now.. Infact I am hoping to attract some into my gardens wildlife area.... if anyone has any ideas on how to do this i would be most grateful

Nice one! I did a quick adder count today and found this under one tin; 
There's always someone who has to go one better, isn't there?!

The most I've had is 5 under 1 felt- that was amongst 60 odd others I saw on wednesday plus the other 5 native reptiles.

I am very fortunate in that the odd one turns up in the garden occasionaly
They used to be very common here everything from silver to bronze to gold

i have never seen a wild reptile in this country though i did nearly get bitten by a small horn tailed adder in cyprus as i removed it from my mums garden with a pair of kitchen tongs because if she'd seen it would have been killed. | | |
