Where would you feel safe?

Being a doting mother, I often think about the question of security and the comfort of feeling “safe” in this big, wide, nasty world. So, I am going to pose a question to you gentle folk that I would like answered fairly quickly, if you will, as it is something I want answered on gut feeling. So please humour me and put aside that logic and reasoning, ok? Don’t be sensible and work out too many ifs and buts!! Try to work on gut instinct for a moment.

Q. If you were to be living in the wild (as you, not as an animal), where would you feel safest? For example; underground, on ground level, or above (e.g. in a tree), or maybe somewhere else?

Of course your answer may depend on the imaginary wild-place in the first place…when I posed the question to myself, I immediately imagined being in a remote (native) woodland, and came up with my preference….and I must say I was a little surprised, actually! I thought I would revert to type and prefer ground level, but when I imagined it, it was underground where I would have felt safest. Surprising to me as I am not happiest in closed, confined spaces!

Btw, there's no particular agenda here, just my sheer, idle curiosity. And I know there must be people on this forum who can identify with this sort of bizarre thinking (i.e. I am not the only nutter! lol!)

On an island, in the middle of a lake.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

In a wood immediately sprang to mind on ground level so at least I can quickly leg it if I have to, underground is ok but I felt very enclosed when I tried to visualise it, so in a wood definitely, but right in the heart of it not at the edge, would seem to feel more safe if I was right in the middle. Hope that's ok. Fi. X X X X

Re: Where would you feel safe?

Well, I'm another one that would feel safest in a wood and at ground level. Would feel too trapped either underground or at a higher level.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

I would have to live in a tree like the swampy used to live in when they built the Newbury bypass. I don't like worms.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

I of course am going to be different. I would live in a cave... which i could enclose and make safe by putting stones to make a wall., staggered to make it difficult for the wolves to get me. I would build my fire in the entrance made by the walls. There would of course have to be a stream for my water supply. All the comforts of home.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

My immediate reaction was to think of woodland, and at or not too far above ground level, certainly not high up though.

Seems a daft thing really, because anything could sneak up on me.

I do tend to be more comfortable in woodland than in open spaces, unless I'm close to the sea.

I'm not sure where I'd feel the safest as such, everywhere seems to have it's pitfalls. But I've always found living in the hollow of an old tree appealing. When I was growing up there was an old oak tree nearby which had a hollow bit that I used to sit in, almost felt like I was being hugged!

Funny you should say that, Claire, as I was thinking a hollow of a tree, leading to an underground hideaway. The idea of something as strong and immovable as a tree above seems to embrace the best of both worlds....an underground refuge with the added advantage of a more conventional above ground house with a "roof"!!

Anyone fancy the Beaver's idea? A watery entrance to a dry and isolated lodge?

Forgive my indulgence - maybe I am in need of a duvet day (lol!)

Re: Where would you feel safe?

Definitely in a wood, in the middle of the night. No one could creep up on you, because once you've sat in a dark wood for a while you know every sound going on around you. If anyone did come you would be watching them, not the other way round. Now a dark wood with an enormous oak tree... that would be heaven... I would climb up and sit on it's branches and watch everything going on around me. Safe and sound.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

A cave came to mind instantly..... On high ground so I could see, with a freshwater spring, woodland and some sort of handy back way out so I wouldn't get trapped!

Re: Where would you feel safe?

The first thought of mine would be a well established meadow. Very strange I know but that`s where I would feel safest.

Re: Where would you feel safe?

a wood is a good idea but at night time it would be deadly to preds

i think i would pic a cave too, its a solid structure and you can defend the single entrence more easily
you could also hide its entrance when away keeping it safe too

Re: Where would you feel safe?

In a cave with a waterfall at the front & an escape route out the back. The escape route would lead to a hollow tree which i would climb & end up in a tree house with tarzan like vines hanging out side. All bases coverd

Re: Where would you feel safe?

Only just spotted this thread. I would go for cave as well. I could rest against a solid wall and face the open. I would like lots of trees and fields outside though.

Me too, I would go for the cave option! I would like to feel safe from the front at least!

But then I am p-----d and would need to feel safe! From predators
