Red Admiral
I took this photo with my long lens set up intended for birds (300mm plus 1.4 converter) I was amazed how well the photo of the red admiral came out even when you enlarge it .
Who needs a dedicated macro lens

Yes that is quite a good combination for getting 'butterfly shots' and not that unusual..
Most of the butterfly shots I have were taken with a Sigma 100-300mm f4 lens and 1.4TC. Most of which have been taken when hoping to get shots of birds.

Hi john, i have a sigma 150 for macro but i might try this more often,however i think you need far more light than my 150mm needs.
