| | | Tips for Mirror lense I have an Opteka HD/MC mirror lense which I am planning to use on my 400D. Having never used a mirrio lense before, does anyone have any tips on how to achieve the best results and what the pitfalls of mirror lense might be for wildlife photographing. Thanks in advance. |

The main disadvantages are that the aperture is fixed, often F8, and you also suffer from poor contrast. The worse problem though is the effect on out of focus backgrounds. It looks like doughnuts, very distracting, and your eye gets drawn to this rather than the main subject. It can produce good results in ideal conditions, i.e. when the subject is very close or when the background has no detail. |

I am not a great fan of mirror lenses but I thought, as I have been given one, that I might give it a try. But I don't hold out much hope and it's certainly not something that I would buy. But they used to be all the rage once. |

Thanks in advance. | Put the camera in aperture priority mode and set it to the aperture of the lens (probably f8 - most were).
