I was under the impression that a polariser was a good idea for wildlife, although I can't remember why! I shall certainly try without.
I think that the image stabilisation may be the culprit though, I hadn't thought that it should be off on a tripod, although that does make a lot of sense now it's been pointed out!
Haven't really managed to have another go yet, but will update with some images when I do.
Thanks all,

| | | Re: Technique for sharp images Hello Again,
Ok so went out again today, no polariser, and image stabisation switched off. However I did use a 1.4x converter for some shots.
Much more predictable shooting. Used a tiny little portable tripod called a Cullman Magic 1, and very happy with the results!
Thanks all for your help and advice. I am enjoying my new hobby!
Shots from today follow.

| | | Re: Technique for sharp images Great shots Gawain. Glad we could help. Adding a 1.4x will again rob you of 1 stop of light but a necessary evil sometimes.
Keep that polariser for your landscapes. Light is THE most imortant aspect for wildlife photography, grab it everywhere you can. Thats why we go into a life of debt for long bright glass.
Looking forward to seeing future shots. Happy shooting.
regards.

Your tree was the focus point. Change to central spot focussing (or manual) to ensure camera is not controlling you. |

Gawain | Looking good. On the original images you posted the polariser may have been degrading the image quality. reducing the sharpness if it was not good quality too.
I can tell you visited Regents Park for these shots - good choice of location |
