| | | my home made waterproof/rainproof housing Was after a rainproof housing for my new sony a33 dslt camera.I have a hahnel wireless remote 80m range which i was using to trigger the camera,my idea is to set it up close to bird pirches and wait for them to land and use trigger to get the shot,i like this method and yeild some truely fantastic shots differnet form the norm long lens crop shot,i can use my 18-55 on 55mm and get it about 18 inches from the bird, wham, got it.nailed.
Only problem in this country was the weather so i just made this.
Easily fit dslr in,titlable screen so once setup easy to align as i dont have to see through viewfinder, well couldnt get my head in the box to do it ya see.
Made using 77mm uv filter for main window and lunchbox with seals around edge.so no rain will get in,and just sit the slr in the box, screw tripod through base(hole in base just big enough for screw) into camera, that part sealed through pressure on tightening.and its at base so no chance of leakage.
77mm filter glued into place with waterproof glue.
few pics, might even camo it for the pro look, well as pro as a lunch box can look.
But you get some stunning pics in the rain, much different to the fair weather stuff usually seen.

| | | Re: my home made waterproof/rainproof housing Now that looks very doable! I might give this one a go. Got a few spare UV filters around and I'm sure I can nick one of my Mrs storage boxes. |

| | | Re: my home made waterproof/rainproof housing thanks, yes easy enough,i did also run a small amount of glue actually on the very edge of the glass of the filter to the black bit, just to make the filter itself water tight,as the glass is only held in place by a spring clip at the rear.Doesnt matter about the small bit on the glass, just be careful, there is still loads of glass to shoot through.
Oh pouring down this morning here in stafford, tested all morning outside and there was not 1 leak, camera bone dry and its throwing it down consistantly.
Think i may make a small sheild to clip on front above the filter just to stop splashes of rain hitting it.

| | | Re: my home made waterproof/rainproof housing Now that's what I call rather nifty. My old Mum has a feeder mounted on the end of her garden shed and is quite into her cross-stitch,she'll sit for yonks just picking away. Wonder if I can set one of these up and persuade the old dear to set up her rocker in said shed and ping the remote every now and then while I slope off for a swift one?

| | | Re: my home made waterproof/rainproof housing Seriously though,it's good to see that the grand old art of improvisation isn't totally extinct. It's not because we're mean (or "grippit" in my part of the world) It's because we actively enjoy making do with whatever's at hand.Any fool with money can buy a solution to a lot of obstacles in life but you can't buy the native ingenuity of the genuine landsman. My Grandad said often that as long as he had his penknife,a piece of string and sixpence he would get by.He was doolally of course but that has it's place too. Eccentric means literally off centre and that implies a difference in perspective which reveals the otherwise hidden truths of life.
Going for a lie down now.
