| | | Re: Is this bad practice My only concern is if anyone catches on to you baiting an area, they just might follow you on with poison bait. Or if you are spotted, and a BOP suffers from poisoning in the area you could let yourself in for allsorts of trouble. Especially with all the reports of peregrine persecution, and others including eagles of late.
regards
Colin

| | | Re: Is this bad practice The basics all all what is above is correct except if you hit it yourself and pick it up you can be prosecuted under poaching legislation.
I'm an ex-gamekeeper so I used to be in the loop so to speak. The law was brought it to protect game from deliberately being run over by poachers BTW.
The law for this is covered in two sections but basically you cannot use any sort of mercanical/eletrical/ fuel powered item of any sort of device to pursue game.
And to kill game with a motor vehicle AND also pick it up is also covered.
So if you do it yourself you can be hit via two criminal laws. Removal is strictly speaking is theft (belongs to the land owner) but as Mac says you not going to get many problems under that one.
In fact as we used to have this problem on our estate you will be doing them a favour as we had so many road kills at one point the local council were going to bill us for clearing them up! Needless to say who got that job being an under keeper at the time
BTW if you ever hit one it's like hitting a building brick at any sort of speed I've seen car radiators destroyed by them. |

| | | Re: Is this bad practice I can't remember where I saw it originally, but I have seen something on the web, posted by a full-time photographer who has used oven ready chickens staked to the ground to get BoP to come down to feed. He set up a low hide in the area and 'bob's your uncle'.
Some might say it's cheating, but I bet if you asked pro's like Simon King, John Aitcheson and Gordon Buchanan if they used the odd 'trick' or two they would probably have one or two up their sleeve.
