| | | Re: Wanderer or sit and waiter? all my pics are taken on the wander,
obviously if the moment needs i sit and wait i.e i spot a deer i'll sit and wait for the situation to pan out but once the pics taken or moment passes im off again.
im with KT if i sit still to long i start to wonder what im missing round the corner or in the next hide etc
i prefer to wander and see than sit still and not see the pictures are a bonus |

| | | Re: Wanderer or sit and waiter? I employ (and enjoy ) both methods but in recent years I'd guess that some 80% of my photos have been taken using the 'sit and wait' technique, almost always from a hide, car or whilst dressed in full camo and usually having picked the spot with a particular species in mind.
Although a great deal of patience is required (I've spent up to 6 hours in my dome hide) I'm convinced that for me at least the 'sit and wait' method is the only way to get good quality close range results on a fairly regular basis.
It's all about putting yourself in the right place at the right time, and trying to remove the element of chance by ensuring that your target species does the same
Stumbling across something and getting a good shot of it whilst wandering around is always a thrill but a fair amount of luck is usually involved.
As others have said, once you've blended into your surroundings using the 'sit and wait' technique it's surprising what turns up - last weekend whilst dressed in full camo gear and tucked into the undergrowth near our local Kingfisher nest site I had a Wren hop across my feet and a pair of Long-tailed Tits busying themselves less than 30cms above my head. I also watched as a Green Woodpecker flew in towards an old nest hole only to be greeted by the head of a Grey Squirrel popping out

| | | Re: Wanderer or sit and waiter? I'm very much on the wander, mainly because I've had little success just sitting and waiting. I've had varied results, some of which are commendable, but nothing gob-smacking. The trouble is, if I'm sitting in a hide for a few hours, I know those few hours could bag me some shots on the wander- you've really got to decide what you're going to do for that day and do it. I've tried many a time to sit and wait but after just a few minutes, I'm thinking "I could have had 10 great shots of those Partridges up the lane by now".
Tough situ' but I have to learn the patience of this craft. |
