Colin | Only you can make that decision Colin. I'm pondering over a Canon 300mm F2.8 or a Canon 500mm prime, but I've two years to make my mnd up as I can't buy until I retire.

| | | Re: 300mm in Bad light I know its not in the same league as the Canon but as I only have limited funds I purchased a Sigma 300mm F2.8 last week , paid £700 s/h for it . its boxed and comes complete with drop in filters , already had a 1.4TC and just bought a s/h 2 X TC to try it out , I expect the IQ wont be too good at 600mm but can always sell the TC if its well below par.

I would advise you to use the 30 day free trial of Adobe Lightroom 2. I use Lightroom 2 and it is a great product. |

| | | Re: 300mm in Bad light All modern cameras have a wide iso range, my advise is to up the iso as high as you can without adding too much noise, on my Canon 30D from iso 100 to iso 600 its very hard to tell much quality difference. But look at how fast the shutter now acts :-)
Try it and see how far you go, you will be surprised, all the stuff in magazines can be mis-leading at times
Good luck
