Just a bit of an update on this thread.
By now, I'm using the Canon 7D Mk II and recently thought I ought to become familiar with the video option although I don't have any specific reasons for wanting to shoot video.
Finally got to understand some of the camera video options but my previous software wouldn't even look at the modern high quality large image size formats.
After a bit of thinking, I remembered my photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop CC) had a basic video edit option. So quite a bit more of head scratching and I am finally getting things to come together, quite literally.
Had a bit of a problem with auto sound being embedded within the shooting images and not available for editing but eventually realised that if I plugged in an external microphone connection with the microphone switched off, everything worked fine and no sound recorded.
In reality, it doesn't even need a microphone, just push in a blank microphone connection plug.
