| | | Canon cameras advice! I have decided to get a new camera and must admit that the following canons have caught my eye-EOS 50D,600D and 60D.If anyone uses any of these what are the pros and cons of said models...
thanks

| | | Re: Canon cameras advice! i have a canon 50d and it has served me well for the last couple of years
a good thing is they can be picked up for a reasonable price now considering they cost just under £1000 at launch
they make a good wildlife camera with a reasonable frame rate of 6fps 15mp and are weather sealed to a degree
another usefull introduction was micro AF adjustment it was the first camera down from th 1d's to get it and it can be usefull
the cons i can think of is they are not that good at high iso settings the reality is anything above 500 iso and you will be using software to remove noise
i don't know of other peoples experiences but iv'e never had to clean the sensor in the 2 years i have owned the camera and there is no dust showing on the images it looks like the built in sensor clean works quite well on this model although i am pretty careful when i change lenses
hope this helps

| | | Re: Canon cameras advice! I have the 7D which I am very pleased with. I had a 50D prior, and agree with Cosmicma about the noise - I found the chroma noise worse than luma. If I was looking for another camera now, and couldn`t stump up the readies for another 7D, I think I would go for the 60D.

| | | Re: Canon cameras advice! Ellen. You may find this discussion, on a photo forum site, about a similar quandary helpful. Canon EOS D60 - something wrong?
The 50D is out of production now, but there may be a few still laying around in warehouses etc. Otherwise you are looking at secondhand.
The 7D might also be something to consider if you can find one at a good price; that is what I did.
I would say that the chief item to consider is the feel of the camera. Some people like the more compact and lightweight feel of the XXXD range, like the 500/600D etc. While others prefer a more chunky but heavier piece of kit.
I'm definitely in the latter camp and wouldn't consider one of the XXXD range after using a 40D followed by a 7D. But, as I said, they are heavier and can become a bit of a burden at the end of the day, particularly when also used with a heavy lens.
However, for me, the simpler and quicker ability to make adjustments during shooting with the 40/50/7D far outweighs any size disadvantages. But I'm not struggling to get my hands around them.
I didn't mention the 60D because, for me, it is more like the 600D than something between the 50D and 7D. But having said that, a friend has one and likes it; it just wouldn't suit me. Although being a little smaller and lighter than the alternatives may well suit some people. |

| | | Re: Canon cameras advice! Thanks for the replies folks...I went to a local photography shop yesterday to have a look and handle the cameras.I had to dismiss the 7D as it was out of my price range anyway but between the 600D and 60D the one I liked was the 60D.
I found the weight and size easy to handle,it had quite a few features found on the 7D.
I will be getting the efs 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 is lens with it.
I am looking forward to using and learning how to get the best from it and in time(when I have saved enough money!)to getting more lenses

| | | Re: Canon cameras advice! one of my cameras is the 600D It is light weight and easy to use if you know Canon but I'm sure you will soon get used to it if not.
I have found it to be excellent in every way, i got it originally for the live view function and the rotating screen which i find very handy for fungi photography. I recently sent my 40D away for cleaning so have been using it for all my photos, if you look on my web site Zenfolio | Davy Crockett and find the Bittern, Water Rail, & Otter pics and most of the fungi are taken with the 600D hope this helps. (i can't see a problem with it either on point and shoot or manual modes.
