| | | Re: vivitar zoom thyristor 265 Sorry I can't help but understand your concern. I have a Vivitar 283 flash which I bought many years ago and would like to use, but info on the 'net suggests the voltage may be too high.
The only suggestions I have found are to contact the manufacturer of your camera for info and to test the output from the electrical contacts on the flash with a multimeter.

Volts is too high. To use it you will need a volt regulator.
Volts on most Canons are 6v. some old flashes are up to 260v.
Phone Canon to be sure before attaching to to camera as it will damage the camera if volts to high.
I think it's 188v. Too High. Buy a Wein Safe Sync Hot Shoe High Voltage Sync Regulator.
Look around the internet for one. Not cheep i'm afraid. I got one but only use it when needed.

I have a Wein Sync regulator, but to be honest I have only ever used it when using older type studio flash heads.I am not sure if you could use it with a speedlight, I will have to have another look at it...if I can find it...lol.

| | | Re: vivitar zoom thyristor 265 I use mine when I use my Vivitar 285. But since buying that regulatar I went and bought a New Metz Megablitz 50AF Flash gun so it only gets used if I'm in an Adventurous mood. There are cheeper ones than the 'Wein Sync regulator', so look around on google. |
