Shipping for the new EF 500 f/4L IS II was delayed at the end of last year. As far as I know, there has not been an official release date mentioned other than sometime in 2012, although April is favourite at the moment. (mentioned by canon usa)
Once this lens has been released sometime this year a few of the older models may become available as people upgrade. I think its just a question of waiting and looking.

| | | Re: Canon 500mm f4 Not what you are after, but I was down at Carmarthen Cameras last weekend and they had a nice looking 600 F4IS (minus hood).
Personally I would love the 500 for the reduced weight (I use the 600), but in my world the 600 is too short!
Any way might be worth a look.

i;ve hired a 600 before and it's a wonderful lens, but very big and heavy. i need to be able to take my lens abroad via plane, so i think the 500 is the max i can go to and still be able to get it in my hand luggage ( along with a couple of other lenses, converter and a couple of bodies) .
thanks for your interest
all the best

martin | The 600 is no problem - you just have to buy another seat!

I have a superb 500 f4 IS that I am selling - optically pristine, couple of very minor marks to the casing - fully working. Comes complete with the case - again a couple of scuffs to the corner protectors.
Also has a lens coat on, lens hood and cover. Selling with the manfrotto 393 tripod mount and a manfrotto hide clamp - all in all almost £300 of extras - the price £4300.
Would prefer collection - am based near Leeds but happy to discuss.
Reason for selling is that I am now more into fashion and portraiture and am after a medium format system - this is sitting looking at me unused nowadays. Check out my flickr site (ID drfireball) for some examples in earlier stuff - tits etc.
Hope to hear from you soon
