I know Graham suffered a really bad copy and had awful focus problems with it. There are good ones out there...it`s finding them.

| | | Re: Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM If you want another users opinion, here's a link to a thread on a photography site I use: sigma 120-300 f2.8 vs canon 300mm f2.8
You'll see the user is a BIG fan of the new lens, and has the images to prove his point.
You'll also see my contribution with samples of the images I got with the earlier version and the main reason I'm very hesitant about trying the new one. Those images were by no means the only ones, I got loads and all had the same kind of problem. Obviously the lens was faulty, it could have been damaged in transit but I wasn't prepared to put up with it so it went back.
If I do decide to try the new version I will definitely get one from one of the larger British suppliers, just so I can easily send it back if it's dud again!
There's also a thorough review here: http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff...120300f28oseos

| | | Re: Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Thats a really interesting thread and as I'm in the market for a mid range at the moment, it's something I would seriously consider.
One thing that I find difficult is gauging sharpness and quality from small pictures. I like to see a full size shot to be able to compare other wise it doesn't really give you the info required. The wagtail shots look great for wide open and with a 2x connected but the same still applies.
I'll have a hunt around and see If I can find some.

| | | Re: Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM I got this lens recently and like it so far. The size and (especially) weight are a significant step up from the Sigma 150-500mm OS that I had before. I'm still at the stage where I'm learning how to make best use of it. I'm using the 2x converter sometimes too, which decreases quality but it is still good. I like having the flexibility of using either 300mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/5.6 (or the shorter end of the zoom as well - 120mm is quite useful for landscapes for example).
