The Final Step ...

I may as well admit what I've done as it will get spotted soon enough in the coming weeks .......... I've taken the 'final step' and ordered a 1D mk iv ... A pro camera is something I've lusted after for a very, very long time but I've only worked towards this goal slowly - very slowly - from the original Zenith E when I was 23, and on thro Pracktica, Fugi Finepix, Nikon Coolpix, Canon 20D, 40D and up to present with a 7D just 17 months old .......... and in a couple of weeks I will be 59 ...... so not a sudden thing then?! Yes I know its a lot of money but I'm not saving for my old age - cos old age is here and the time is now - or never. Ian's comment when I told him what I;d done was 'There's no chance of me retiring before 75 then' .......... My thoughts are I came by retirement by default and being so ill for half of this year has convinced me once and for all this is not a dress rehearsal - the time is now or it might be never so get on and live. I did say to him that should I die suddenly and soon he will be left with a lot of equipment which won't have devalued like I am doing .........

He will be able to sell it all before looking around for an 18 year old brunette (his goal before being steam rollered by me

)

Good for you Pauline, as you said its not a rehearsal and you should live life to the full. Look forward to seeing the results of your new acquisition in the not to distant future.........although how you can improve on perfection is beyond me.

Pauline- you get so much enjoyment from photography AND you're so bloomin good at it, it can only be good for your health! Go for it girl. A good endorphin rush is beneficial to your well being.

I think what you're doing kit wise is the perfect plan, with just one teensy-weensy, bijou little problemette... It's not Nikon kit so I can't borrow it!

Oh and tell Ian the way the economy's headed none of us are going to retire before we're seventy-five so we might as well get used to the idea!

well done pauline its the way to go and remember there is no shops where we end up so cant take it with you also coming up to 59 pah your still a spring chicken

I doubt that you'll have any regrets!
If there's something that you want then sometimes you just have to go ahead and get it (within reason!

) and you clearly have the talent that will allow you to use the camera to its full potential .

I thought I better say something about it as its going to get noticed eventually - I know money is tight and folk are struggling and I didn't want to appear to be bragging and get folks thinking - there she goes buying something else ... as for improving - well its always possible to improve - a skill is something you learn and age changes your perceptions. It is partially true too that the right kit will bring its own rewards - the improvement in pixels and numbers of them with the increased fire rate might get me some of the BIF shots I have been missing ... I must admit I'm getting a bit excited now
