| | | Re: The Final Step ... I'm actually delighted by the results - I can see myself getting all sorts of stuff in better light conditions - I really have got an endorphin rush now just thinking about what might be possible under proper conditions. But I;ve proved a point to myself even now in the first two hours - I won;t be scared to try and take something even if the conditions are dire. The 400 f2.8 would have brought even better results if I could have carried it
Its hardly been daylight here today - I even have the lights on at home now and its only 2.15pm - a very dire and rotten looking day ...
Pauline
PS Those shelduck must have been a quarter of a mile away and it was pouring down and almost misty in the distance ........ what an amazing camera this is !![/quote]
I said you would like it!
No camera is "Magic" but the 1D4 is as close as it gets at the moment.
Look forward to months/years of fun playing with this camera especially for landscape work - you will be very pleasantly surprised.

The thing which really fascinates me is that images come out of it almost ready to go ........ I've robbed myself of some of the play and manipulation I reckon - this really is a different ball game ...... bring it on

Jim | Hard to explain really but when the shots are compared or I look at others shots taken with 1D they are 'brighter, clearer, a superb clarity and almost a smoothness yet with a huge amount of detail' all this is subjective but look at anyones website who uses a 1D or a 5D and you can just tell that they are taken with a pro camera. The 7D is still an excellent camera and I will still be using it - esp when out walking any distance. Its probably got a lot to do with the sensor size and the extra pixels which someone with a techie mind could probably explain - me I go off what I can see and I have been able to tell what camera has been used and sometimes even what lens in certain photos for quite a while - I suppose that comes from having a critical eye and spending a lot of time looking at other peoples images and thinking about what they have done and why!
Pauline
PS I shoould have taken the 7D with me yesterday and done my own comprisons - tho I doubt the 7D would have taken anythiing that wasn't blurred - it not fast enough for the lack of light - had I taken the 400 f2.8 I would probly had all my pics sharp but I wasn't up for carrying the weight!
Anyone who wants to make comparisons go onto my zenfolio site look at my more recent pics then jump across to dc.images (link on front page 3rd down) - our friend David Cooksons and look at his 1D images then I think you will see the characteristics I'm talking about. Look in Decembers Gallery at his kestrel hovvering!

Or send me Ian's 400 f2.8 for a year.
I guess I'll keep on dreaming of that lottery win. SiiGh!!
ENJOY it whilst you can Pauline. I've always said, if you got the cash spend it on what you want.
I bets you could get darn good images using a Pin Hole camera.
You certainly get far better images on your 7D with 400 f5.6 than I ever do.
What's the secret???
Enjoy Life....Take Care

I tend to take as much with me as I could possibly need, otherwise I know I'd find myself saying 'What's the point of owning a xxx lens, if I leave it at home all the time, because it's too big/heavy?'
