He he, only because I missed the opportunity to say the same thing first | What are you like?!!! Well between the weather and phonecalls this aft I haven't got to grips with it yet - but I have photographed the neighbours roof tiles just like I promised - and no I'm not uploading those! The weather tomorrow is even more dire so I suspect I may not be getting much of a trial with this camera for a few days yet ....
And yes Neil - I was suprised that both batteries were down - it took about 2 hours so thats not too bad .........

Jim | The camera might be (tho I see no reason to get it wet needlessly - I've no doubt given a month or two I will have crawled or fallen into something wet and muddy without even trying!) but the lenses arn't waterproof and the cost of buying a new one of those should anything go wrong just makes my eyes water ..... these are once in a lifetime purchases

He he, only because I missed the opportunity to say the same thing first | LOL!
The reality is that, when I stay at Beddgelert in Snowdonia for Christmas and the New Year, I have to sit in what is called the "Naughty Boys' Room" for the New Years Eve party in the Bistro where I stay. Along with 7 or 8 other like minded individuals. Where a very good, if slightly boisterous time is had by all for the entire evening! And my naughtiness is not alcohol induced as I've been teetotal for over two years now. It just comes naturally.
Anyway, Pauline's new camera. I too can't wait for the results to start showing here. Good onyer Pauline.
Oh by the way Pauline. Would you take a turn in the naughty corner too please. Last night, after reading this thread, I started researching all the top Nikon cameras..................

Pretty please? I will go if I can - I will have a strop if I can't - hahahaha!
Just waiting for it to get light enough to go and try it - rain is forecast from 10am onwards so just how much chance I'm going to get remains to be seen - but I can't photograph the neighbours roof tiles for a second day - no please - I want to see a bird thro it - any bird will do at the min!!! What am I like?!
Don't forget this life isn't a rehearsal and human life can run into some really nasty patches (and thats me using a polite description of situations I think are VERY nasty) so to my way of thinking should be balenced out with treats when possible. In my case better late than never - I;ve waited a long time - round about 50 years with this in mind and never thought it would actually happen - but I never lost sight of the possibility ....... and in fact this morning has a touch of unreality about it like I may wake up clutching the bedside clock and no cameras to be found anywhere ...... its a funny contradictory thing when you get something you have deeply desired but kept mostly hidden from yourself for a long time ........ enough psycho-babble - its getting lighter outside .... back later ......

Well you wanted to see results and here are my paltry first efforts .... it takes a very desperate person to go to Martin Mere in the pouring rain just to get photos of a rat, pheasant and distant shelduck (all cos a new camera is burning a hole in someones pocket )
I was using the 500 and settings were somewhere down on a 60th from the feeding hide which is dull even when the sun is out - it was pouring down and blown' a hooley again - not quite as bad as yesterday but windy enough.
I'm actually delighted by the results - I can see myself getting all sorts of stuff in better light conditions - I really have got an endorphin rush now just thinking about what might be possible under proper conditions. But I;ve proved a point to myself even now in the first two hours - I won;t be scared to try and take something even if the conditions are dire. The 400 f2.8 would have brought even better results if I could have carried it
Its hardly been daylight here today - I even have the lights on at home now and its only 2.15pm - a very dire and rotten looking day ...
Pauline
PS Those shelduck must have been a quarter of a mile away and it was pouring down and almost misty in the distance ........ what an amazing camera this is !! |
