| | | 45x wide angle + macro lens I have just got this attachment lens, it fits my 100mm macro lens but don't fit the tamron 70-300mm can I get an adapter to make it fit.
Or can how can I get the best out of this lens the macro part fits with my macro lens so I can get a little closer but the light is bad atm so I hope I can get some decent macro shots with this attachment.
I tried this lens in the garden on the wide angle lens attached to the macro lens and didn't see much of a difference so I thought it might be better attached to the tamron for landscapes..
Has anyone got any info on this attachment lens.. |

| | | Re: 45x wide angle + macro lens Not quite certain what this lens is, is it intended to be a macro or wide angle lens (adapter)? There are quite a number of "Close Up" and "Wide Angle" lenses that can be screwed on to your filter thread (on the front of your lens) - is it one of these? If so they are something of a compromise, however they are cheaper than buying a Wide Angle or Macro lens. I hear good things about the Raynox and Canon macro adapters but have little knowledge of wide angle adapters.
Hope I haven't got the wrong end of the stick!

As JB9302 said, this type of supplementary lens is really aimed at the camcorder market. - Although there is no harm in using it on stills cameras if it is useful (If truth be known, the very useful Raynox supplementary lenses were designed for and aimed at the camcorder market).
To be honest, I doubt whether you will get much use out of it (Although if it is doing what it says it should, then it should turn your 100mm into a 45mm and you should be seeing much more field of view in the viewfinder).
You will be able to get a stepping ring if you really want to put it on your 70-300.
The ring would need to have a male thead of the same size as the filter thread on your 70-300, (so that you can screw the ring onto the front of your 70-300), and a female thread, of the same size that the threaded end of this supplementary lens is, (so that this supplementary lens can then screw into the stepping ring).

To the best of my knowledge ....
With the the wide angle part attached it will increase your field of view so that on a wide angle lens it should in theory become a fisheye. The problem is that it will start to vignette and you will need to start to remove distortion from the image and heavily crop.
The macro is (I think) a 2x attachment so should enable you to get closer focus. I use the Canon 500D on my 60mm Nikkor Micro Lens but get distortion at the edges but as you are only interested in the centre it is not too much of a problem. The main thing here is that the Canon is a achromatic designed to limit the effects of chromatic and spherical aberration hence the higher price.
If it was me I wouldn't bother with the adaptor for the 70-300mm as it might cause more problems than it's worth.
I also think that Julian has a point in that quite a few of these products are aimed more at the camcorder market even though they are advertised for digital photography.

Mike. | Cheers mike,
I might try it on the 50mm to see how I get on I think it will be useful when the 70-300 is to close like on buildings like churches ect
I thought it might make for better landscapes if fitted to the tamron what do you think, will it make any difference I thought I might get a sort of panoramic effect.. |

Note though, that these supplementary lenses tend to vignette at the frame corners if used on a lens that will give a very wide-angle end result. (But should be OK with a 50mm).
Chances are that you've got a camera with a 1.5 crop sensor so a 50mm lens on it's own, will behave like a 75mm, and adding this supplementary to it will, (or should), make it behave as a ~34mm, so not very wide at the end of the day.
If it were me, I personally wouldn't bother getting a stepping ring to fit it to the Tamron 70-300 as I don't think I'd get much use out of it.
But you might find it suits your subjects - so it's one of those things that you won't really know unless you try it.

| | | Re: 45x wide angle + macro lens Thank you all for explaining how this lens will work best I will not bother with the rings on the Tamron now as I don't think it would make any difference reading the replies here but will try the lens on the 50mm.
I have tried the macro attachment on the macro lens and it does allow me closer but is limited and blurs the edges but worth experimenting with now I have it. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
