| | | My Canon 5.6 lens hood is stuck ? Hi
I took out my lens today canon 5.6 400 to find it a bit stuck. In fact I cannot budge the thing its completely stuck and I am unable to even move it now as the problem has got worse by my attemp to free the hood. Has anyone else had this prob ? And I suppose it will have to back to Canon ? It looked like a small band of rubber was trapped and had snapped at one end any clues? Its only a month old Im gutted
Any help please......

Cable ties, fixing them so they tighten so the thread loosens
more than one tie is required so thehood joint stays circular
otherwise it goes oval and jams BUTif you are not sure leave it
It is possible to unscrew body joints

| | | Re: My Canon 5.6 lens hood is stuck ? It is nearly back to allow the lens cap on but not enough. When I first tried to open it it was very stiff and I opened it half way then tried to twist it back but its is completley stuck. It is impossible for me to get the cap on the lens and if I did get it on it wont come of because I cant nip the ends to open...... I think somehow a rubber seal or something inside has got snagged About two weeks ago it was stiff but I twisted it and it freed up so I think it will have to go back to canon :_( Im so gutted. Will the lens need to go back to the dealer or straight to canon ? Also do you know if they are good on warranty?
Thanks

| | | Re: My Canon 5.6 lens hood is stuck ? You could try putting it in a warm place, like the airing cupboard (not the oven though )for a couple of hours to see if that helps loosen things up. Maybe even a little blow with a hairdryer on the plastic part of the hood - very gently of course.
Otherwise, it's probably back to Canon

So long as the lens shows no sign of abuse or tampering, any dealer worth its salt would exchange the lens after such a short period of time. Your opening gambit is with the establishment where you purchased the lens, although you don't say where (high street or on-line, for example). Your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer.
My advice is, don't use any more force on the hood. Return the lens to where you bought it, and ask for a replacement.

I've never had to deal with sending something in to be repaired, but the lens hood on my Canon 400 5.6L has been stuck. A rubber o-ring is visibly sticking out a tiny bit in one spot. Started on a very cold day, and I presume the rubber ring contracted. I probably forced it too much then, and now it's not where it should be, and is jammed between the hood and lens body.
Just had a quick google about ,seems this is not uncommon

HW | I have contacted the dealer straight away and I am waiting for a response. The lens was purchased on the 5-02-2007 so is only 1month old, The lens is in perfect condition. It sounds like the best idea to me.
Thankyou for the advice.
