| | | Canon launch new flagship Canon have officially announced their next pro-spec body: Canon Announces New Flagship Pro DSLR, the Full Frame EOS 1Dx - DigitalCamerainfo.com Canon Professional Network - The EOS-1D X explained: inside Canon?s flagship DSLR
This shows something of a turn around that will be welcome to a lot of canon users, canon have dropped the MP to 18 (the previous flagship full frame was 21mp). Still easily enough to print massive prints with very rich detail, but should allow excellent low light capabilities as well.
Canon also seem to have merged the 1Ds (full frame) and 1D (1.3x crop) model lines, as previously the 1Ds was the full frame high res type body whereas the 1D line was geared towards speed, canon seem to have mixed the two together to produce a medium resolution (compared to the 21/24mp bodies), very fast full frame body.
Evidently it's price tag will put it out of reach of most people, but that is a what a flagship is for after all.
What's great to see here is that canon are responding to popular demand for lower resolution/better high ISO and nikon's success with the D3/D3s . |

Still a lot of bread!
Lets see how it performs first, then wait and think about it for a while and by then it will probably have dropped a few hundred quid.
Then start saving!

| | | Re: Canon launch new flagship It amazes me how camera manufacturers release new models without testing them first only to fix the glitches with firmware updates later
Time will tell i suppose. Sadly at that price i wont be one of those lucky enough to test it for them. |

Off now to lie down and daydream.. | I recently read a review of the Sony - in what way is it better? Yes it has a very high frame rate (neither will equal the ancient Canon F1), I slow down my 1D4 to 6-9 fps - plenty. AF is enhanced by the SLT but this cost quite a bit of light! Look at it's high ISO performance - great for it's pixel count (currently unrivaled) but not in the same league as your 7D. Also why do you think the Canon 1DX is only 18mp and the Nikon D3 only 12mp? Big pixels = (normally) better quality and ISO performance.
Lets wait and see how they both pan out!
P.S. do you know of a good long lens (longer that 300mm) for the Sony - I don't.
You are better off where you are IMO.

| | | Re: Canon launch new flagship YEP!! After reading another review I do tend to agree with you John. It does lose about -1/3 or 3 thirds of light. Not Good for Nature shots in UK.
Good for the yanks and other countries that have better light than the UK..
I will not be switching from Canon back to Sony. NO WAY!
I am HAPPY with my 7D, just wish I could afford a 500 f4 or 400 f2.8
or 400 f4 or a a a a a a ARrrrrrrGH!! Never mind, I'll make do with what I got. LOL | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
