| | | Gone Back To Canon After faffing around with various makes I have decided to return to Canon , had a 40D 2/3 yrs ago.
This time I bought the lens 1st and today got a s/h 2011 400mm 5.6L prime which I always wanted when a previous Canon owner.
Now looking for a s/h body to go with it , 40D again or anything else worth considering ie 500D ?
S/H prices are around £300 for the 40D body.

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon The 40D should suite you nicely. I still use mine although not with my 400mm F5.6 L, which I use with my 7D.
I am critical of the 40D focusing system. This is obviously only my personal opinion, but I got very frustrated with it especially for birds coming towards you head on. It struggled badly to lock on and keep locked on. Even my 20D was better!
The 7D is far superior for this type of shot.
For all other focusing the 40D was just fine. |

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon If you have previously owned a 40D I don't think you would be happy with one of the 000D range.
So if you can find a good low use 40D that sounds the best idea.
Alternatively a new 60D; but personally, if I was replacing my 40D with a new camera I wouldn't bother with the 60D and would go to the 7D as Graham suggested.
However, it is expensive and some people seem to find it a little bit too complicated. Most bird photographers, however, really like the 7D. |

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon Thanks for the advice and comments , I am minded to go for a 40D again , maybe a 60/7D in the future if funds allow.
Not much left in the pot after buying the 400 5.6L .
Thanks again

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon Got a 40D today , should arrive later in week , described as mint about 10000 shutter activations .
Looking for an indoor low light lens , grandson that sort of stuff , would the 50mm 1.8 be suitable ( £74 new ) ?

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon the 50mm on the 40d would be more like a 75mm lens full frame so would be ideal for portrait type stuff
there a great lens for the price and should be in your collection just in case |

The 7D is far superior for this type of shot. | I'll second that. I have two 40Ds and both struggle to get a focus lock in similar situations. But I haven't tried anything better to compare the 40D to though.

| | | Re: Gone Back To Canon If you want to lug around a Tripod or Monopod all day then use that converter.
Waste of time though as you'll miss to many shots. Don't waste your cash.
I got a 400 f5.6 on my 7D and I hand hold all the time. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
