| | | SimplyElectronics, No Camera, No Way Further to my recent post about purchasing a Canon 7d for my wildlife photography, I placed an order with Simply Electronics last week, think it was a week today, Friday, and asked that the camera be with me no later than Saturday 1st October. That was a week ago. I rang and emailed all day yesterday and the day before, hoping that they would deliver in time for my photography workshop with Heather Angel at the British Wildlife Centre.
Their delivery states 2 - 8 days. Unfortunately Saturday and Sunday doesn't count as they are not "working days"
Today, huge disappointment. I have now been emailed the following...

Thank you for your email.
We regret to inform you that we are unable to guarantee that the order will be delivered by tomorrow. To avoid further delays, this email is to confirm your order has been cancelled. Once the refund has been processed, we will send you an email notification.
Should there be any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What a disappointment. I will go to the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey with my old Canon 400d and order the Canon 7d elsewhere. SELBY BADGER WATCH - welcome to our website - which we hope you will find both interesting and informative |

| | | Re: SimplyElectronics, No Camera, No Way I've also read many things regarding Simply Electronics that would make me unlikely to deal with them. I understand from what I have read that they trade via Hong Kong and it may be 'grey goods' that are delivered.

| | | Re: SimplyElectronics, No Camera, No Way As far as I know, grey goods are not quite black market, but not squeaky clean either. Often warranties or guarantees with grey goods turn out to be useless, so even though they may seem cheap, if something goes wrong, you've just chucked your money away.
Hubby and I have used Warehouse Express for cameras and lenses etc and always found them to be very good. They deliver quickly, even up here, and sometimes do free next day delivery.
Regards, Audrey. |

Another one to look at is SRS Mircosystems at Watford.
I rang them the day before to check the camera was in stock. Ordered online about midday on Friday 16th Sep. Received an email confirming the order at about 2:30 the same day and it arrived about 11:15 the following Monday.
Wednesday this week I thought there was a problem with the camera so I emailed SRS. Within 10 mins they had 'phoned me to talk it through. As it happened it was not a problem, but I was impressed by the service.
I used them because of the excellent comments about their service on a photography forum. Can't see myself using any where else now.
Dave

| | | Re: SimplyElectronics, No Camera, No Way Grey imports are goods which were sold by the manufacturer for retail sale in one country (or area), then imported into another country to be sold there. It's perfectly legal, but the manufacturer may not honour the warranty.
I recently bought a big Sigma lens from Simply Electronics. They took a fortnight to deliver it, but it did turn up eventually in good condition. It clearly is a grey import (although I didn't know that when I ordered it). The manufacturer's warranty says that it's only valid for goods which have been properly imported into the customer's country of residence. But there was a one-year warranty provided by Simply Electronics. So I guess it's OK, but I won't be buying from them again. |

| | | Re: SimplyElectronics, No Camera, No Way Mifsuds, down in deepest Devon, have always come up with the goods for me. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, competitive pricing and quick dispatch too! Plus rapid replies to emails; I can't fault them.
Just my personal input, FWIW
Cheers,
