| | | powershot SX210 IS Hi all.
Just a quick question. Does anyone or has anyone used one of these? I'm looking for a small compact camera mainly for when i'm out hill walking. I have been using my canon 50d with 28 - 135 lens but its just a bit too big to be lugging over hilly ground without the risk of damaging it. I do put it in the backpack but cant be bothered to keep getting it out, and also if its raining it stays under cover.
I've been offered one of theses powershots second hand for £100, a year old, hardly used and from a reliable source. It would be used mainly for recording where i've been so not looking for competition quality pictures. I just don't want to spend that money on something that will give disappointing results.
Any advice or information would be greatly recieved.

| | | Re: powershot SX210 IS I dont have one of these but we do have a much cheaper and less spec'd Canon ixus 95. Although it purpose in life was intended for general use and family shots we often take it out for quick grab shots and points of reference. The quality is plenty good enough for small prints and the macro mode is just amazing. I'm sure there is lots of models about to choose from but I'm certain sx210IS would be just fine. |

Have a Canon 350D and being a small (ageing!) female was fed up lugging a backpack and lenses so decided on a compact 'point and shoot' and went for this very one ... gold in colour as it was £10 cheaper!! I have had it about a year now and used it for family weddings, Birthday celebrations, landscapes, plants, holidays, birds and anything else that moves or doesnt. There are dozen's of functions that I am not up to speed on yet (too lazy to read the whole manual) but very pleased with it. The IS (image stabilization) function is first class when taking plants blowing in the wind .... and I mean Scottish winds!!!
Go for it and wish you many happy days snapping.
PS .... did find that the battery ran down quickly in hot weather. 35 - 40C but that could have been due to me using a power adaptor in the USA. At home it will go for hours if not days on one charge. Replacements can be had from '7day' ...... you know that place?
