DSLR stabiliser. the gadget to make a great photographer

Always after something I can make to improve my mediocre photography, (the gadget that will make me a world class photographer )
I came across an old free standing uplighter base, plastic covered cast iron.
A few minutes work and I had a huge stabiliser attached to the bottom of my DSLR, it worked very well but was cumbersome, I changed it for a Marmite pot filled with old airgun pellets so that it sat in the palm of my hand, much better. Anyhoo! to cut a long boring tale short, I wondered if anyone else was as clever as me and searched online;

The simple things are usually the best though. The chest camera bracket is a good simple design, possibly better than my image of you creeping about Somerset with an uplighter base catching in the brambles!

When you see people who WANT to take photos (but they have no disposable income) fight over reloadable 35mm cassettes it makes you realise that there is talent out there and a few DIY tools and gadgets can make a difference to their progress. I like making things and am always prepared to help those that will try.

I take it this would stabilize the camera when taking macro shots so no need for a tripod in hard to each places..

Do you mean the chest rest or the lamp base The weight below the camera will help to stabilise a camera, but the benefit does depend on the individual. There are expensive commercial products but if you find any of these ideas work for you fine, if you have a better idea that could help then please say so None of the plastic bits are very expensive so it has got to be worth a try and you can alter the sizes to suit you

Thank you it is a good idea and I have been using it for years there are a few shortcomings, but it is certainly worth carrying in a pocket.

I use my Joby gorilla pod, which doubles as a stabiliser, rammed against my chest
