Geoff | I haven't a clue but like Randy and Jim say, we'd lose a decent amount of crop so nice for wildlife photography.
I came across this post, just trying to find out if a new G series is out soon (G13)

| | | Re: New Camera releases from Canon? I find it hard to see them making the 7D full frame.
The 7D's place in the market is "top of the range crop sensor", they have the 5D series as the "more affordable full-frame".
Those specs sound like they were taken from a rumours site. |

I think thats BS to be honest. | I think 24Mp is more suitable for a 'full frame' sensor rather than a sensor with a crop factor of 1.6 like the existing 7D. More pixels on smaller sensors needn't be a good thing
Why is there such a need for so many pixels anyway?? From what I've seen and read the current 7D with its current 18Mp sensor seems a very good camera which allows for reasonable cropping and the printing of large prints. What more do you want or should I say NEED.
Seems the higher the pixel rating the more temptation to buy!
There is no doubt about it 'more pixels' is a selling point whether it be on a camera or mobile phone. It's called marketing!

John D | Too true! I hear Canon have a working prototype of a APSH (1.3 crop) sensor that works at over 9 frames per second and is 120 mpx - yes 120! I am sure this is great fun but what advantages would it really give? I have 2 DSLRs at 12mp (full frame) and 16mp (1.3 crop) and i am not experiencing a lack of resolution. IMHO better glass is the way to go - it's just not as sexy for the marketing boys and girls!

| | | Re: New Camera releases from Canon? What we really, really, really need is NO noise at iso800 at 18mpix and low noise at 1600mpix. To be honest, for the first time in a long time I'm Happy with my 7D + 400 f5.6 but a bit annoyed with noise I do see at iso400. Though Thankfully my Prints are Great.
Too many gimmicks on cameras are not good.
Did not win the lotto tonight so must keep dreaming of my 1DMk4 and 400 f2.8 | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
