John D | I think you've got this spot on. Its a case of 'mine's bigger than yours' syndrome. I've often heard people talking about compact cameras and comparing the pixel count and zoom ability.
If the current 7D is 18mp on a 1.6 crop sensor doesn't that make it equivalent to a 28.8mp sensor on full frame, therefore a new camera with 24mp on full frame is a reduction of pixels, or have I worked this out wrong? |

So the get the same pixel density as 18mp 1.6x crop, a full frame sensor would have to be ~46.1mp

Too many gimmicks on cameras are not good.
Did not win the lotto tonight so must keep dreaming of my 1DMk4 and 400 f2.8 | Forget the 400 F2.8, I used to have one - you wouldn't like the weight! It's about the same as my 600 F4 and you didn'y fancy carting that about!
However keep dreaming of the 1D4 ISO 3200 is no problem - many are happy at 6400, I am happy at 1600 or a little more as I can't be asked to PP much - too lazy!

| | | Re: New Camera releases from Canon? Well young Squishy, you are up to date with your knowledge. Well done, as I did not know 1.6x crop factor was Linear. Nice to know.
Hi John-- Oh Boy! Do I know that the 400 f2.8 is HEAVY!!
I and Squishy nearly dropped Ian's 400 on the deck. (Ian is PMG's other half)
I was not sure who's heart was having palpitations first. LOL
Nice to Dream though, as it will probably remain a dream.
If I keep saving I could buy the 1DMk4 within 5 years. lol. So I guess I'll have to stay Happy with my 7D until then.
Now where did I put that 1DsMk6!! It's here somewhere. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
