| | | Re: Extension tubes Haven't got that lens, Trev, but what exactly are you wanting to do?
Tubes are normally used to get a macro lens even closer; although I have used a 25 mm tube with my Sigma 150-500 for a sort of macro shot of insects.
One problem with tubes is that you will lose the ability to focus at infinity; but that doesn't matter with macro only work.
I did successfully use a 25 mm tube with my Canon 70-300 lens but this has a relatively close focusing 'macro' length of around 3 ft. to start with.
The only other downside is a slight loss of light levels so you might have to increase the ISO slightly. |

| | | Re: Extension tubes In that case, Trev, have you also considered a converter to increase the magnification as an alternative?
They will work with that lens and also give a bit more extra for the distant birds. etc.
A x2 converter will lose autofocus but a x1.4 should prove ideal. And not a massive amount dearer than tubes.
ps. The Canon converter will be acceptable for this lens but not the Sigma macro. However, a Sigma or alternative third party converter may well work with both lenses. But check before purchase.
