| | | Wide angle lens Nikon D80 Hi everyone,
I currently use an 18-135 lens on my Nikon D80 and I find I am taking more scenery photo now could recommend a good wide angle lens that will not brake the bank to me please. and has any one upgraded from a D80 to D300 and was it worth it?

| | | Re: Wide angle lens Nikon D80 I use the Sigma 10-20mm lens on my Nikon and am very happy with it - it is a popular choice. Get one 2nd hand from a reputable dealer. But be aware that wide angle lenses don't simply 'fit more in the shot'. They make distant things seem further away and foreground objects seem larger. If you aren't getting everything in the photo that you want, shooting several shots at 18mm at stitching them together on the computer could be a better option - like a panorama?
Upgrading to D300: Whether it is worth it depends on what your feel your D80 isn't letting you do. Not sure it is worth doing, if you mainly shoot landscapes. D300 will let you shoot at higher burst rate (useful for fast-moving wildlife) and higher ISO (so you can shoot at higher shutter speed in low light). Presumably for landscapes you are using a tripod so high ISO is less important. But the D80 is an excellent camera, even if a few years old by now. Or if you really want a new camera, trade in your D80 for a D90 (go for 2nd hand again), which is an improvement in a number of ways but won't cost too much.
Unless you have loads of cash, I'd suggest a better option would be spending the money on a 'fast' (wide apperture = lets lots of light in, and blurs the background) lens e.g. Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. Or the Nikon 70-300 VR lens which isn't so 'fast' but is an excellent lens, and reaches out to 300mm which isn't bad for wildlife shots. |

| | | Re: Wide angle lens Nikon D80 The Sigma 10-20mm is a fine lens on DX format bodies. A good used one - the original not the newer constant aperture model - would be a good buy.
The D80 is a still a good camera - but an upgrade to D300 would be a significant jump.
Personally I'd recommend a used D90. Same sensor as the D300 and at least as good image quality. It hasn't quite got the same build as the D300 and isn't as fast - but it's a fine camera!

| | | Re: Wide angle lens Nikon D80 Another +1 for the 10-20 ( I use a propper camera - aka canon but they are good in any mount) for a bit more cash the tokina 11-16 f2.8 is also worth a look

Good grief! | It was a joke FFS as is obvious from the context
I dont care what sort of camera people use ( ive got a mamiya, 2 pentaxes, an olympus OM10, 4 canons, and a fuji )
the fact that your first post after 18 months is to revive an old thread and try to pick an argument where none exists says far more about your own maturity or lack therefof than it does anyone else

| | | Re: Wide angle lens Nikon D80 Hi John, I'd forget about the Sigma and go for the slightly more expensive but much superior Tokina 11-16 f2.8. It's a stunning lens and you won't be disappointed. As for the D300. Just buy one...it'll blow you away. Wizzo
