| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system I've tried the 400 but I just can't hold it for long. The 300 is debatable but with L series 70-300 I may get good quality glass at a weight I can carry. I'm hiring on for the weekend so I'll get to see if I can cope with it.
Thanks for the input.

| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system Just tried out the FD 200mm this morning , a couple of shots just to see it was working from opposite ends of the aperture range.
May buy a 2 Canon extender to see what its like at 800mm.

| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system After looking at your flickr images they seem ok. Are you getting AF or AE info through the camera with this lens attached or are you metering handheld? Looks good to go though!

Manual focus only , have to set aperture on lens as no info is transmitted from lens to camera.
You have to remember what aperture you set .

Sounds like you'll not be taking BIF shots then .

| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system No chance , to be honest its a lovely lens capable of taking shots from tripod , but I am having a rethink and perhaps I should go the way of AF lens such as the 100-300mm Lumix ( with OIS ) giving 2/600mm equiv.
Thing I would only get static bird shots with camera set up in back garden with the FD 200mm and prob lose most having to MF .
Other option is change back to Canon 40D and look at a 400 5.6L lens but its money I havent got.

| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system Afternoon Jullian,
Sounds like your in the same quandary that I was.
I have to say, I was lucky that my return to APS-C sensors were aided by an Uncle who could get the hang of his kit. Without that I would have struggled to be where I am now. The 550D is all the camera I'm likely to get for a long time, just weighing up a new lens
To me, your kit is useful for all sorts, just isn't suited to BIF. Unless the 100-300 has improved since I trailed it!
I wish you luck with that decision. It seems just like cars, with camera gear there is always something else that we desperately need to get....

| | | Re: Advice on using Panasonic G2 Micro 4/3rd system Well after giving it some thought and trying the FD200 out garden I have decided to go for the Lumix 100-300mm lens.
The Canon 200mm is fine for statics which allow you to M/F but need A/F so its going towards funds for the Lumix lens.
Let you know how I go on when sorted Steve.

At least the decision has been made, now all you've got to do now is pay for it. I look forward to seeing your results.
All the best
