| | | Re: Is FourThirds better for macro re DOF? I got some lovely macro shots with my compact 4mp Olympus 750. I wanted better so I got a Olympus 510 dslr and a Sigma 105 macro lens and was disappointed that they weren't a lot better.
Also, the photos of my cat weren't alot better either. but taking photos of birds with the long zoom lens 100-300? and then cropping and blowing them up was much improved. the 10mp gave more detail.
Olympus abandoning dslr is very annoying, after I spent so long deciding which brand to go with and buying several lenses. I don't know if you could buy any 620 now unless you get them secondhand.
On dpreview on the Olympus dslr site, someone posted some macro photos - absolutely brilliant. Just what I had imagined I would get with a dslr. BUT, I believe he was using a Panasonic FZ50, which is a compact - isn't it? He was also using some extra lenses on the front - got a bit technical for me. So I guess I won't be getting great macro shots after all.
If you are interested look at the 'weekly macro' sites on Olympus dpreview. It was 2 or 3 weeks ago. |

It's annoying though, that they don't announce their long term plans for them. (There have been rumours of an E7 in the future, though.)

Most of the photos shown on DPReview and in the galleries here have been developed using software on the original image, this is part of digital photography workflow however, experience and practice are necessary with DSLRs, they are different to compact P&S cameras.

It's also a nice illustration of how good the EC-14 converter is - it just works seamlessly with any 4/3rds lens. It always make me smile smugly when I read of other camera users debating whether converter 'X' will work with their lens, and having to faff around 'taping the contacts'!

Jim | Thanks Jim,
You are correct, both the EC-14 and EC-20 work well with 4/3rds lenses.
I've had some good images using a Bigma with the EC-20, a combination which many think is unsuitable however, no tape required!

| | | Re: Is FourThirds better for macro re DOF? Hi
I know this is an old thread, but my G2 is m4/3rd I find that with my 17mm 1.8f lens I great really good bokeh and great shots at the other end. I hope that neither Olympus or Panasonic stop producing on this system as it suits me for weight reasons. It would be great if sigma & ya Ron bought into it to, then I might get the glass I'm looking for at a price that suits my bank balance (and ER indoors!) lol
All the best
