The camera I sent to Nikon to get rid of the brush fibres cost £30 for the cleaning and return postage. It took a little longer than two weeks but I was just happy not to have caused any expensive damage!

You Can Not use a 1.4x converter with the 400 f5.6 on your canon 7D. ONLY in Manual focus. That is why you be getting Soft or out of focus shots. Take it OFF.

thats not entirely so - you can use a 1.4tc with the contacts taped with a f5.6 lens (it is most common on the 100-400 pump) but you have to accept that foccusing will not always work in dim light - if darren is getting soft shots even in bright light then this isnt the cause of the problem.
