| | | Re: Bushnell trophy cam or Prostalk 5mp Many thanks for your reply - I guess I ought to post an update. I finally plumped for the Bushnell 2010 trophy cam, and having had it in use for just over a month can say that I am really thrilled with it! For the first week I set it up in my garden and got some good stills of a fox and our cat (not togther I hasten to add!) and some nighttime video of a deer eating a rose bush. I then set it up by the river at school and first night filmed an otter and since then have got some badger footage too. More importantly the school children are enjoying seeing the wildlife in their habitat.
My only slight gripe is that sometims it does not switch easily from off to set up mode - the screen does not switch on, but it is OK if I then switch back to off, wait a little bit and then try again. I also have noticed that for daytime video the film has a blueish tinge to start with then corrects itself. Neither of these issues though are preventing the use or enjoyment of the camera. |

| | | Re: Bushnell trophy cam or Prostalk 5mp Hi Santa
Are you still happy with your Bushnell Trophy Cam? I'm keen to get one but I read a review (2009 ish) that the trigger time of 1 second is more like 3 seconds and that the video fps is interpolated. I haven't seen a later review. Is this the case? Has it been resolved?
Thank you for any feedback. |

I'm on my third camera! They all seem to be made in China, and they seem to be hit or miss.
My first camera ( don't even know the name of it ! ), had a dedicated battery pack, pack up - £29.00 to replace it! But the camera packed up at the same time.
I read reviews that indicated that 'The little Acorn' was the best. Don't buy a Little Acorn !
After buying a Little Acorn, I read that the battery cover was a poor design - it was. As a Toolmaker, I was in a position to modify it myself - in fact I improved it! But it still beat me, by not being able to record video longer than 1 second. All this, when just out of guarentee!! How do they time it like this?
As I monitor Foxes, I wanted a camera. Reading the blurb, I was impressed by the Bushnell Trophy Cam that was used by the BBC in 'The Land of The Tiger'.
So I bought one! Described as 'The Bushnell Trophy Cam' as used in the ' Land of the Tiger' - you can't get any clearer than that, can you?
Sadly, yes you can. I bought the Bushnell Trophy Cam (179.99), but there's a Trophy Cam XLT(219.99) and a Trophy Cam Black LED (299.99).
If in doubt, buy the top one, the cheap one is the one I have, and it works - but it's not as I expected it. The XLT is the one I should have bought, but I was unaware of it at the time. It wasn't until I bought the one I did, that their leaflet informed me that there were 2 more!
Let me give you a couple of links. This is the one I've bought. I wont recommend it. I would have sooner paid extra for the XLT. Bushnell Trophy Cam - Brown at Uttings Outdoors
Now the next link is to a US site dedicated to testing these devices, and holding the manufacturesrs to account! There's loads of reading and it's well worth it .............. Trail Camera Reviews

| | Re: Bushnell trophy cam or Prostalk 5mp Before I leave this thread I must say one more thing. Which cam trap you buy depends entirely on the use you need from it.
I use mine purely for intelligence gathering purposes. i.e. what's where and when to confirm trackways and other fleeting but promising personally gleaned field info.
The most basic 2010 Bushnell Cam Trap provides sufficient study of habitual behaviours to save me hours and hours sat about in the field waiting randomly for stuff to turn up. So the bog standard Bushnell is perfect for me. It logs what's going on while I do other stuff elsewhere.
Should you be one of those couch potato types who wants to stick a fancy camera out and produce HD vids without much effort purely to show to your mates and post on wildlife websites so folk can go "Hey guy great vid"..........get an XLT blacklight.
What you saved on hiking boots, warm weather gear etc will easily cover the extra cost?
respect and with tongue firmly in cheek
Yes that was controversial. |

Hi,
I have been using stealth cams for quite a while now to help with badger research.
I bought a Bushnell Trophy over the internet and it was imported from America. At first, I thought this was quite a good buy, until import duty knocked it up by £30+. Also, some models don't record sound, so do your research!
The Bushnell worked fine for a couple of times, taking some excellent video, but after that completely stopped and had to be returned with yet more postage costs to America. It worked out a very expensive mistake, although I dare say, if they work properly, are good little cameras.
A word to the wise, in cold weather, these cameras may stop working altogether. You may think it is faulty, but no, it's just the low temperatures.
I love using my stealth cams, and currently have a Spypoint Pro X Plus, and a Prowler HD, both have their pro's and cons.
Good luck. I am sure you will be thrilled the first time the camera captures a badger !! Little Mele |

Your post and links have been very helpful.
The 2011 XLT (non black flash) version is my current choice. |

| | | Re: Bushnell trophy cam or Prostalk 5mp I bought the basic version of the Bushnell Trophy Cam for a trip to France in June and it worked just as I expected, ie. it activated itself when something passed by and recorded a decent enough image, whether it was dark or light.
It was worth the money just to see my first Pine Martin!
If you want to see some examples I put a few on my blog. Bungling Birder: France Part II - Trailcam
