| | | Canon 200-400L IS announced Canon EF 200-400 f/4L IS Development Announced Canon Rumors
Canon have announced a rival to the legendary nikon premium tele-zoom, the nikkor 200-400 f/4 VRII.
And it has a twist. It will have a built in switchable 1.4x converter that looks like it be enabled without removing the lens from the body.
I expect it'll have an eye watering price tag
I wonder if it'll have the same production delays as the new super-tele primes.
I think I have a new 'if I ever win the lottery' lens.

| | | Re: Canon 200-400L IS announced I was considering getting the older 300mm F2.8 L IS. Should I wait for this one?
I'm only kidding! There's no chance of me ever being able to afford the price they'll no doubt pitch it at. |

| | | Re: Canon 200-400L IS announced from the EOS Newsletter see they are also going to bring out a 400mm with a built in 1.4x converter and a 500mm........ but the prices look mind blowing and will now have to see if i can think of a way of getting the cash together or maybe robbing a bank |

| | | Re: Canon 200-400L IS announced Just wait a while and these new lenses will drop from their idiotic introductory prices the the nearer the normal ridiculous prices that Canon's command.
Look at the 70-200 f2.8 IS II, it's now about 10-15% dearer than the old version. I think the new 300 & 400Mk 2's will go the same way, though I am not certain about the new 400 F2.8is II - I have spoken to a sports photographer who got the opportunity to try one at a Rugby match with his 1D4, he was not too impressed compared to his Mk1, so they can't be that much better!
Look at it this way they will make the existing lenses more affordable!
As to the 200-400 there is no previous model so I think we might have to wait quite a while before they cost less than a new car! Just have to be patient or buy a used 300 f2.8 and learn better fieldcraft or foot zoom!
