| | | camera body decision? Hi All.
I am wanting upgrade my current camera but im am unsure what too?
I have a dilemma of a Canon 7D or a Canon 1d Mark 4?
The mark 4 will take bit longer to save up but i am up for the wait.
I will use it for Bird Photography and a bit of landscape work(but not much).
I will use it will a Canon 400mm 5.6 lens and soon a Canon 500mm lens?
What shall i do?
Kind Regards,
Sam Winslow. |

| | | Re: camera body decision? As Good as the 7D is, if you can, save up and buy the 1Dmk4. Superb camera that will work just Great with a 400 f5.6 or the 500 f4. You will NOT regret it.

| | | Re: camera body decision? I don't own one but I have played with a few 7D's and I LOVE them! The viewfinder has to be used to be believed! They are small, light, responsive, very well built, VERY good af, give excellent IQ and they are £1100 - £1200! IMHO simply the best value on the market! As you might have guessed I am a fan of the 7D
I use the 1Div - why? Well to be honest I just wanted it! Now I have got it I can see why! Yes it's big and heavy - a real pain in my opinion - but it's just so good! The af is excellent (when you get your head round it!), the metering is harder to use (less idiot proof) but overall much more flexible. The IQ is something else! I find the "Croppability" to be bordering on the ridiculous - 50% area crop is fine for A3 printing. The resolution of the sensor is significantly beyond the pixel count - it's only 1mp more than my previous camera (50D) and has a smaller crop factor yet will equal or sometimes ourange it! Any long Canon F4 or better will af with 1.4 & 2x T/C's stacked - handy in emergencies.
I can't honestly say that the 1Div is worth the extra money, but what I can say is that if they want mine they will have to pry my cold dead fingers from it!
Oh yes then there is the build quality, it's so good it almost justifies the weight! The buttons just feel/work better, the grip is that bit more secure, everthing just fits and feels like you want it to!
Don't try a 1Div or you will end up like me - happy but SKINT!!!!
P.S. The 1Div gives stunning lanscape images - so much so that my FF camera is pretty much redundant! Want to buy it?

| | | Re: camera body decision? If finances allow then I'd go for the 1d mk iv.
I'm not saying that the 7d isn't an excellent camera but if you get one then I reckon after a while you'll start wondering what the 1d iv would have been like. Well I know I would...

| | | Re: camera body decision? It's a no brainer really Sam! Sell what gear you have and trade up to a proper camera system like Nikon! Wizzo

| | | Re: camera body decision? Bear in mind--If you can only afford a good camera and a lesser lens then the Sigms 150-500 works a treat on a Nikon D300s.
Have not yet read anyone moaning about that system set up.
Welshlensman has that set up and his images are Superb. Far Far Better than my setup of 150-500 + Canon 7D.
But if it's only going to take you a little while to get cash together and you can afford it, then go for the L series lens and either 7D or 5Dmk2 or 1Dmk4. The latter is a no brainer if you got the cash.
Good Luck. |

. | Maybe you have a bad copy of the 150-500? Sigma's quality control isn't particularly well renowned to say the least. Those two bodies should perform pretty much the same. |

| | | Re: camera body decision? Hi Squishy---This lens of mine has been back to Sigma which then repaired three things within it. I'm one of those people who have had nothing but Bad luck since first buying their 170-500 and now the 150-500mm.
I'm sure that i might be doing a slow speed from time to time, but I know when that happens the fault is mine. I'm also sure that those who know me might think I Moan about my lens for nothing, but I can assure you I do not moan about it for nothing.
I don't moan about my other lenses on my Sony A700 or the Sigma 17-70 f2.8/4 OS on my 7D as they work great.
I also know that Sigma only test these long lenses on a Canon 50D downwards as they not got a 7D to test them on. How on earth they can say AF is good for a 7D when tested on a 50D is beyond me.
I must make a New Years res, Stop moaning about my long lens in 2011

| | | Re: camera body decision? I have the 1DmkIII and have to say it the dogz danglies for wildlife, even at only 10,5Megs it is worth its weight in gold. The focus speed, additional focus helper points and the utter speed of the frame rate make it unbeatable. Well until they brought out the 1DmkIV anyway - enjoy. There is only one choice, but it is the expensive option.
You will always have in the back of your mind what could have been if you buy the 7d. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
