| | | Pentax K5 One for Pentax K mount users. Its been getting rave reviews using the new and very impressive Sony sensor and the 645D's MF camera's auto focus: Pentax K-5 Digital SLR Review
The high ISO performance seems particularly good. One test places it as not only the best cropped senor but ahead of all the Canon full frames but ahead of the Nikon D3 too!
Looks like I may be upgrading sooner than planned! |

| | | Re: Pentax K5 I'm thinking exactly the same. The K10D has been great... but AF for birds in flight and low light performance in the woods make the K5 look like a must-have upgrade!
However, the K-r is also a big, less expensive, step up from the K10D and I'm still debating if the K5 is really worth the extra £££ |

Chas on this forum upgraded from a k-7 to a K-5 and seems mighty impressed with the improvement! |

Looks like I may be upgrading sooner than planned! | As good as the new sensor is, I think that's a bit over stating it. If you check DxO mark, they place it as the second highest APS-C sensor (just 5 points (out of over 1000) below the D7000 (same sensor), at about half a stop better than the current crop of APS-C cameras (D300S, 7D etc.). Still falling quite short of the 5DMkII and D700/D3. (as you'd expect given how the sensor is still smaller)

| | | Re: Pentax K5 Woops I was basing it on this which looking again seems to based on the overall score ratehr than just the ISO. DxOMark - List view
Not bad still though, especially if your already using Pentax |

| | | Re: Pentax K5 certainly not bad! it's excellent that advances in high ISO performance are still being made, and it's particularly good that the K5 is starting to get pentax properly noticed in the top end APS-C DSLR market. |

| | | Re: Pentax K5 I have played with a couple of the more recent Pentax cameras and must say I was impressed! I was also quite taken by their "kit" zoom lenses, they seemed very good for the money.
Although I am a Canon user I am pleased to see that there is another viable contender out there, it does none of us (consumers) any good to have one or two manufacturers dominating the market. Sony are also producing some nice DSLRs but like everyone except Canon and Nikon they suffer from a limited range of lenses, still a bit of competition is good for everyone. Pentax produce some excellent lenses now what if the updated/introduced some longer ones? Keep Canon & Nikon on their toes!

| | | Re: Pentax K5 Just a heads up for anyone contemplating what looks set to be an award winning camera - I currently use a Pentax K10D and am looking forward to the upgrade. But.......
On several Pentax forums there are reports of a widespread problem with marks on the camera sensor. These are NOT dust particles, but appear to be faults in the manufacturing/assembly process.
The problem seems very widespread, and it's leading me to defer the purchase for the moment. If you have the K5 and haven't checked, it would be advisable to do so!
