| | Canon alternatives to the 7d? Hi all,
I've currently got the 450d but I really am longing for greater fps and image stabilisation in the body, as well as greater megapixel.
I've been well impressed with the 7d but before i shell out £1200 big ones, I'm wondering about other canon models you'd consider?
Thanks all, stu |

It's canon's best APS-C camera to date. |

For the money I think it looks a great camera.
I maybe wrong but I don't think the 7d, or any other Canon SLR, has Image Stabilisation in the body does it. Or have I missed something?

Ferret | Ah yes, missed that comment.
If you want in body, I'm afraid you'll have to go to pentax, sony or olympus. Canon and nikon are both dedicated to using in the lens stabilisation.
All very good makes, but if you want to stick with canon, you'll have to forget in body stabilisation. |

With regard to a camera choice, the first thing I would consider is 'Do you want a crop sensor or a full frame camera'?
When you get to the 7D there isn't that much difference in price so it will depend more on what you want to photograph.
Personally, I don't know what I would choose if my 40D became unusable. I definitely wouldn't use the video option so I tend to object to paying extra for that. Although most of the later Canons appear to have it as standard. I don't think the 60D would be much of an alternative for me, although you might like to consider it.
Bird photographers seem to like the 7D for action shots. |

| | | Re: Canon alternatives to the 7d? Within the Canon range the only real alternative to the (excellent) 7d is a used 1d Mkiii, which is in the same price range for a decent one. Don't worry too much about the lower pixel count (10 vs 18 pixies) as this is a pro spec camera with a pro spec sensor and will allow you to print larger/crop more than it's pixel count would suggest though remember it's a 1.3 crop rather than a 1.6 this may be a factor in your decision.
I suggest you look at them both and then decide. IMHO it's a difficult choice as they are both VERY good - the 7d is small, light, good fps, excellent resolution, superb viewfinder + very good af. The 1diii is big/heavy (handy for banging in nails!), feels great in the hand, built in vertical grip, batteries that last forever (and non OEM ones work + are cheap!), top of the tree for fps and better af (despite what you may have read). I know a number of people who own either of these cameras and all are, unreservedly, pleased with them.
If you have got £1200 go have a look at both - NEITHER - will dissapoint.
Good luck

Thanks all, stu | If the 7d is out of your range, then it has to be the 40d, an excellent camera. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
